Celebrating 33 Years of Jane Barr Horstman & Associates

10.23.20

Holy camoly and thanks to everyone for the calls, comments and congratulations on thirty-three years of Jane Barr Horstman & Associates. I sincerely appreciate every single one of you.

What was I thinking?  When I came up with the name for my newsletter I honestly thought I could keep it ‘brief’. Now, a year and a half into it I find that short and sweet (figuratively) doesn’t come natural to me.  This month is a perfect example, but I think I found a solution.

If you want to hear about the very first event that Jane Barr (Pino) Horstman and Associates was contracted for, back in 1993, you will have to sit down with me for a socially distanced lunch or cocktails.  Let’s just say it involved the very first Locust Club Award, Walter Annenberg and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.  Read More

Can you believe it?  Jane Barr Horstman (originally Pino) launched September 1987… that’s 33 years ago.  YaY!   I am filled with gratitude for the many people whom have made JBH&A so successful, looking forward to many more prosperous years and ready to celebrate.  But first I would like to:

  • acknowledge a woman who has been an exceptional mentor, Judee von Seldeneck
  • introduce the newest JBH&A Associate, Rick Blackburn
  • and highlight one of my personal assistants, Sheila Randa.

Seneca.  Seneca was a Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman, dramatist born in 65 AD.  So he has some training that I don’t, but I don’t think he had the entire picture with the quote above.  I agree that luck requires preparation and opportunity but it also requires a certain fearlessness.Read More

Now is a great time to encourage each other and find ways to keep smiling.

“Happiness lies at the intersection between pleasure and meaning. Whether at work or at home, the goal is to engage in activities that are both personally significant and enjoyable. When this is not feasible, make sure you have happiness boosters, moments throughout the week that provide you with both pleasure and meaning.”  —Tal Ben-Shahar

For the June brief I want to introduce you to three women who have given me reason to smile over the past three months.  Mazda, Marikate and Amy are all friends, but they are also business owners in the Philadelphia region.  The reason for my happiness?  Their ability to transition their businesses during the quarantine without skipping a beat.Read More

If a man aspires towards a righteous life …

A long, long time ago, not even three months back, the February brief was all about traveling and dogs.  How visiting other lands and having a dog in your life can both be profound experiences.  Then I was talking up a trip to Italy, now I don’t even consider wandering off my patio.  As we are suddenly putting travel plans on hold, we have an opportunity to look for ways to be of service in our communities.  That’s where the dogs make another ‘brief’ appearance.  This time the ways that dogs help us.Read More
